In dieser Komödie wird eine polnische Theatertruppe in die Widerstandsbewegung verwickelt, just als Deutschland in Polen einmarschiert. Schuld daran ist vornehmlich eine Beziehungskiste zwischen Hauptdarsteller Joseph (Jack Benny), seiner Frau Maria (Carole Lombard) und dem Piloten Sobinski (Robert Stack). Hinter den Gags spinnt der jüdische Regisseur Lubitsch einen entschiedenen Apell für den Antifaschismus.

The blame can be firmly placed on the complex relations between lead actor Joseph (Jack Benny), his wife Maria (Carole Lombard) and the pilot Sobinski (Robert Stack). Barely hidden behind the comedy, Jewish director Lubitsch builds his appeal to antifascism.
