"Es ist die unstillbare Neugier nach nahen und fernen Welten, dem ganz Großen wie dem winzig Kleinen, dem Sichtbaren und dem darunter Verborgenem, dem Vertrauten und dem Fremden. Es ist die kindliche Faszination an der Illusion, an audiovisuellem Spektakel, am cleveren Trickspiel, an Materialien und Formen, an Lichtreizen und Klangfarben. Es ist die Kraft der Menschlichkeit, das Verbindende und Vereinende, die eine Stimme, die einen Sturm entfesseln kann. Und es ist die Liebe für das Geschichtenerzählen, ob in intimer Nähe oder in kritischer Distanz, ob laut oder leise, sanft oder mit voller Wucht. Nur falls uns, die Auswahlkommission des Nationalen Wettbewerbs, mal jemand fragt, warum wir uns Jahr für Jahr durch Hunderte Kurzfilme wühlen, um ein Wettbewerbsprogramm zusammenzustellen.
Auch in diesem Jahr war der Sichtungsprozess aufregend wie anstrengend, das Auswahlverfahren herzlich wie hart umkämpft und die Programmgestaltung glich einem chaotischen Schiebepuzzle, doch am Ende haben wir 24 Kurzfilme, darunter 12 Animationsbeiträge, in vier fantastische Wettbewerbsblöcke gebettet. Die Filme spiegeln aktuelle gesellschaftliche Konflikte sowie überaus persönliche Geschichten in frischen Blickwinkeln und Perspektiven, die Bandbreite der Themen, Genres, Macharten und Umsetzungsformen ist enorm und all das zeigt, wie die aktuelle Generation hiesiger Filmemacher:innen den Kurzfilm als künstlerisches Medium ausreizt.
Wir möchten Sie gern einladen auf eine Reise durch die Wunderwelten nationalen Filmschaffens, durch Sehnsüchte und Fernweh, durch Realitäten und Träume, Sinnlichkeit und Rausch, wenn der Vorhang sich öffnet und die Leinwand zum Leben erwacht.

"’Tis the quenchless curiosity for worlds far and near, for the truly great and the tiniest of tiny, for the visible and that concealed beneath, for the familiar and the aberrant. ’Tis the childlike fascination with illusion, with audiovisual spectacle and cunning artifice, with the allures of light and the shadings of sound. ’Tis the power of humanity, uniting and unifying, the one voice capable of unleashing a tempest. And ’tis the fondness for the telling of tales, whether intimately close or critically distant, blaring or hushed, benevolent or raging. Just in case we in the Selection Committee for the National Competition might be asked why, year after year, we rummage through hundreds upon hundreds of short films to compile and assemble the competition programme.
Yet again this year, the viewing process was exciting and exhaustive, the selection endeavours cordial and hard fought, and the programme structure comparable to a sliding puzzle. But in the end we embedded 24 short films, included 12 animated works, in four amazing competition blocks. The films reflect current social conflicts and highly personal stories from the freshest of angles and perspectives, with the range of themes, genres, styles and creative forms enormous, and it all a revelation of how the current generation of German filmmakers is mining short film as an artistic medium.
May we invite you on a voyage through the wonderous worlds of local German filmmaking, through yearnings and wanderlust, realities and dreams, sensuality and delirium, when the curtains open and the silver screen comes to life.
